SEWARD, Neb. – The newly ranked No. 11 Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Basketball trounced Waldorf breaking the single-game points record (133-48) inside Friedrich Arena on Friday (Nov. 15). Seven Bulldogs cashed in double figures as Kristin Vieselmeyer led all scorers with 18. Abbie Kromarek broke the scoring feat, maneuvering her way to the basket and tallied second most points made (13) with Mack Reimer.

The undefeated Seward squad improves to 5-0 and earns its first conference win.

“Our team just played really hard throughout the game,” Head Coach Drew Olson said. “We played with really good pace. Defensively, we were sharp throughout the game. Everyone played hard. We were doing a good job in the passing lanes, and we were able to work on a lot of half-court defense. That group did a great job. You talk about Abbie; she just plays so hard all the time. Her athleticism really showed out. Mack Reimer is making some really good strides. She can shoot it. She is confident.”

Finishing the first two stanzas with a whopping 71 points, Concordia would eventually surpass the elite 2019-20 Bulldog team in their win (127-51) over College of Saint Mary. This elite defense-to-offense style has produced 102.6 points per game in its first five outings.

After giving up a game-opening three, Concordia barraged the Warriors with a 26-3 run through virtually the majority of the opening quarter. Sammy Leu (11 points) and Libby Hoffman (11 points) similarly drained back-to-back from beyond the arc for 12 of the 26 tallies.

In the second quarter, Vieselmeyer and Bree Bunting (12 points) took over with nine and eight points, respectively. The 10 minutes was the biggest offensive gash of the night toward Waldorf with 41 points on 72.7 percent shooting (16-for-22) from the home whites. Sara Harley hit consecutive treys in the run.

Coming off the bench, Kromarek and Reimer (13 points) lit up the scoreboard as the Bellevue, Neb., native was on fire from long range dropping three baskets in only minutes. Kromarek totaled eight in the fourth driving toward the low block for multiple lay-in completions.

“It is so special with this team,” Kromarek said. “We have all the team chemistry you can think of, always supporting each other. That score, you don’t get it with a team that is separated with one-on-one play. We got it because we played good defense, didn’t turn the ball over, took good shots and played like a team. We just have these special connections that you don’t get all the time. We are playing free and playing for God.”

Six Bulldogs grabbed at least three steals in the 27-swipe taking that included Vieselmeyer (four), Leu (four), Bunting, Hoffman, Joclyn Bassett and Kromarek. Savannah Butterfield scored 10 points and Makynna Robbins (eight points) was a board snatcher with 13 on the night. Ayla Roth had a game-high six assists.

The team shot nearly 60 percent (49-for-82) with 46 rebounds and 32 total assists.

Concordia (5-0, 1-0 GPAC) will host College of Saint Mary (1-6, 0-1 GPAC) in Seward on Wednesday (Nov. 19). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT.
