Bunting’s thievery steals honor with career week

SEWARD, Neb. – The league office announced on Tuesday (Feb. 10) the Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Bree Bunting was tabbed for the defensive award after helping the Bulldogs surge to two wins from Feb. 2-8. She joins Ayla Roth (Jan. 13) and Raelyn Kelty (Nov. 4) in receiving a weekly honor.

Bunting swiped a game-high seven steals versus the Mustangs which hasn’t been reached since Mackenzie Toomey achieved the feat versus Morningside on Nov. 15, 2023. Totaling nine in the two games, the Platte Valley High product also piled up 33 points, five boards and four assists.

The Kersey, Colo., native swished a new career high in points (19) going 4-for-8 from three against Doane in the 84-59 win. A junior guard, Bunting scored 14 against Morningside (84-62) pushing her season average into double figures (10.0). She has fired off 60.8 (14-for-23) percent in the last two games and shot 46.7 percent on the season. Bunting has 240 points, 52 rebounds, 46 steals and 39 assists in her 2025-26 campaign.

Concordia University, Nebraska kept its two opponents to a combined 37.0 percent shooting and forced 52 turnovers.

The Bulldogs will face the College of Saint Mary on Wednesday in Omaha, Neb.
