Concordia University head volleyball coach Rachel Miller has announced the signing of Kayla James.  James, a native of Gibbon, Nebraska, joins Amanda Abbott as members of the 2011 recruiting class.

James was a three-year letter winner as a setter at Kearney Catholic High School.  She earned First Team All-Region recognition as a junior and was a Second Team All-Region selection in her senior year.  She was also an honorable mention All-State selection during her senior year.

Kearney Catholic enjoyed a great deal of success during Kayla’s career.  During her sophomore season, the Stars were conference and district champions.  Kearney Catholic earned Conference, District and League Championships during Kayla’s junior and senior seasons.  The Stars finished third in the state in 2009 and second in the state in 2010.

“I coached Kayla with a select team that played in Hawaii a couple years ago,” said Coach Miller.  “She also played with the team last spring, and the players felt a great connection with her during that short time.  Kayla has great hands and court awareness, but her defense may be what I’m most excited about!  I am thrilled that Kayla decided to continue her volleyball career at Concordia University, Nebraska!"

James also competed in basketball (two years), soccer (two years) and track (1 year) during her high school career.  She earned honorable mention All-State honors in soccer during her freshman year.  Kayla was a four-year member of the Honor Roll and a two-year member of the National Honor Society at Kearney Catholic.

Kayla is the daughter of Ed and Jean James.  She plans to major in the Sciences at Concordia University.
