Concordia signs two more to 2011 class

Concordia University volleyball coach Rachel Miller has announced the signing of Erika Schroeder of Bruning-Davenport High School and Michala Maurer of Columbus Lakeview High School.

Schroeder was a three-sport performer in high school and split time at Bruning-Davenport and Shickley.  She lettered for four years in both volleyball and track & field and for three years in basketball during her high school career.  Schroeder will participate in volleyball and track & field at Concordia University.

During her sophomore season, Schroeder was a Twin Valley Conference and All-State honorable mention selection.  She earned second team All-Conference and honorable mention All-State recognition as a junior.  In her senior year, she was a first team All-Conference and fourth team Hastings Tribune selection, and she received honorable mention All-State honors for the third straight year.

Schroeder has also advanced to the State Track Meet for three straight years.  She helped lead her team to a State Runner-up finish in Class D during her junior year.  Besides her athletic success, Erika has been a member of the Honor Roll and Student Council for all four years.  Erika is the daughter of Scott and Paula Schroeder.  She will major in Secondary Education at Concordia.

“I’m excited to announce the addition of Erika to the Concordia volleyball team,” remarked Coach Miller.  “She’s a terrific multi-sport athlete, and this versatility will help her make big strides in her first year in the program.  Erika’s personality was an instant fit with our current players, and I’m looking forward to having her join us on the court.”

Michala Maurer lettered in volleyball for two years at Columbus Lakeview.  She was twice an Academic All-Conference selection, and she earned Academic All-State honors in her senior year.

Michala has been on the Honor Roll all four years and was a National Honor Society member during her junior and senior years.  Maurer will join Morgan Stover on the Bulldog volleyball team.  Stover also attended Columbus Lakeview.  Michala is the daughter of Todd and Shari Maurer.  She will major in Education with a minor in Math at Concordia.

“Michala is another Bulldog recruit who has attended our camps the past few summers,” noted Coach Miller.  “It's great when this aspect of our program helps to bring in quality athletes like Michala.  She was an integral part of the success of Lakeview's season, and I know that she will work hard to help our program achieve those same results over the next four years.”

Concordia was 11-21 during the 2010 volleyball season.
