Concordia goes 2-0 in final day of Red Raider Classic

Concordia University finished play at the Red Raider Classic with two wins on Saturday.  The Bulldogs picked up a 3-1 win over MidAmerica Nazarene University to start the day.  Scores of the match were 25-23, 26-24, 15-25 and 25-20.  The Bulldogs added a 3-0 win over Valley City State later in the day.  Scores of that match were 29-27, 25-15 and 25-21.  Concordia finished 3-1 in the tournament and improved to 3-2 overall on the season. 

Marlee Denton and Chelsea Vaudt each pounded 10 kills for Concordia in the win over MidAmerica Nazarene.  Sloan Brandon added eight kills.  Alex Szalawiga had a team-high 11 digs, and Nico Ethofer added 10 digs on the day.  Alexa Hopping handed out 18 assists, while Kaylie Mellema had 11 assists and three ace serves in the victory. 

Chelsea Vaudt and Amanda Kisker led the way in the Bulldog victory over Valley City State.  Vaudt had a match-high 15 kills, and Kisker added 13 kills in the win.  Denton and Brandon added seven kills apiece in a balanced Concordia attack.  Hopping had 22 set assists, while Mellema handed out 14.  Elise Ortmeier had a team-high 11 digs, while Szalawiga chipped in with 10 digs for the Bulldogs. 

Concordia travels to Omaha on September 1 for a 7 p.m. match against the College of St. Mary.
