Concordia drops opening two matches at Red Raider Classic Tournament

Concordia University went 0-2 on Friday evening at the Red Raider Classic Volleyball Tournament.  The Bulldogs suffered a 3-0 loss to Morningside and then lost to Jamestown College by the score of 3-1. 

Scores of the Morningside match were 25-10, 25-17 and 25-22.  The Bulldogs were led by Amanda Kisker’s (Lincoln, Neb.) nine kills.  Ashlea Vaudt (Kalispell, Mont.) added six kills.  Alexa Hopping (Sutherland, Neb.) finished with seven set assists, and Carli Smith (Temecula, Calif.) had a team-high seven digs.

Kaeli Austin had a match-high 10 kills to lead the way for Morningside College.  Riley Callan and Maggie Vondrak added nine kills and seven kills, respectively, for the Mustangs.  Monica Iverson handed out 30 set assists, and Darcy Christensen had 12 digs for Morningside in the victory. 

Concordia took the first set against Jamestown College by the score of 25-23, but Jamestown answered with 25-20, 25-20 and 25-17 wins to take the match. 

Angela Bruhn (Creston, Neb.) pounded 10 kills to lead the Bulldogs in the loss.  Vaudt and Kisker added seven kills apiece, while Smith totaled 12 digs to lead Concordia defensively.  Hopping and Kaylie Mellema (Axtell, Neb.) each had 14 set assists.    

The Bulldogs will face Valley City State (11 am) and Olivet Nazarene (3 pm) on Saturday to conclude play in the Red Raider Classic Tournament.
