Bulldogs split matches at Labor Day Classic tournament

Concordia University went 1-1 in the first day of the Bellevue University Labor Day Classic volleyball tournament on Friday.  Concordia is now 5-3 on the year.  The Bulldogs defeated Haskell Indian Nation by the score of 3-0 before falling to Baker University in three sets. 

Scores of the win over Haskell Indian Nation were 25-19, 25-12 and 25-12.  Chelsea Vaudt had a match-high eight kills to go along with five aces for the Bulldogs.  Sloan Brandon added six kills, four aces and eight digs.  Alexa Hopping led the way with 14 set assists and also added seven aces and eight digs for Concordia in the win.  Alex Szalawiga also totaled eight digs for the Bulldogs defensively.  Concordia finished with 22 service aces in the contest. 

Takara Bighorse had a team-high five kills, while Amber Yazzie had four kills and a team-best 10 digs for Haskell Indian Nation. 

Baker University (KS) cruised to a 3-0 win over Concordia in the second game of the tournament for the Bulldogs.  Scores of the match were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21.  Chelsea Vaudt has seven kills, and Ashlea Vaudt added six for the Bulldogs.  Elise Ortmeier had 13 digs, and Hopping totaled 15 set assists.  Szalawiga and Brandon added 12 digs apiece for Concordia in the loss.   

Concordia concludes play in the Labor Day Classic on Saturday with two more matches.  The Bulldogs face York College at 11 am followed by a match with Tabor at 1 pm.
