Bulldogs go 1-1 in opening day of Red Raider Classic

Concordia University went 1-1 at the Red Raider Classic volleyball tournament on Friday.  The Bulldogs picked up a 3-1 win over the University of Great Falls to open play in the tournament.  Jamestown College earned a 3-0 win over Concordia in the second game of the day.  The Bulldogs sit at 1-2 on the young season.   

Scores of the first match were 25-19, 15-25, 20-25, 29-27 and 18-16.  Chelsea Vaudt pounded 12 kills and added four solo blocks to lead the way in the win.  Alex Szalawiga added nine kills and 10 digs, while Amanda Kisker and Marlee Denton put down eight kills apiece.  Nico Ethofer and Elise Ortmeier had 16 and 11 digs, respectively, for the Bulldogs.  Alexa Hopping had 19 set assists in the win.

Jamestown won the second match of the day by the scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-19.  Katie Zent had 12 kills, and Shannon Fee added nine kills for Jamestown in the win.  Chelsea Vaudt and Alex Szalawiga had eight kills apiece to pace Concordia.  Sloan Brandon added seven kills and seven digs, and Hopping handed out 11 set assists in the loss. 

Concordia takes on Mid America Nazarene and Valley City State University on Saturday to conclude play in the Red Raider Classic.
