HAYS, Kan. – In the second outing of the season for head coach Joel Helmer’s trap and skeet team, the Bulldogs placed fifth out of seven teams that competed at the Fort Hays State University Shoot (Sept. 16-17) in Hays, Kan. A total of 17 shooters represented Concordia at the two-day event. Senior Seth Willard emerged as the team’s high scorer with 359/400.
Willard and company did their best collective work in skeet (third place), a competition that saw five Bulldogs hit 90 or more targets. Willard led the way with 96/100 in skeet. Junior Erin Lokke, who turned in a score of 95/100 in skeet, placed third in 5-stand (36/50) and finished sixth HOA among females (second on the team to Willard). A pair of freshmen produced solid results. Among teammates, Origer finished third best HOA, highest in double trap and third highest in skeet. Fellow rookie Wyatt Ericksen was second on the team in trap (93/100).
In terms of HOA, Willard, Locke and Origer were followed by Dustin Renfro (337/400) and Ethan Cradick (335/400) for the top five placements on the team. The field of teams at Fort Hays State also included GPAC institutions Hastings and Midland.
Concordia will stay closer to home for its next tournament, which will be the Prairie Circuit Classic (Sept. 30 – Oct. 1) held at Lincoln County Wildlife Gun Club in North Platte, Neb.
