NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Concordia University trap and skeet continues to take on the look of a program on the rise in its third season under head coach Joel Helmer. Star sophomore Erin Lokke topped the field of 26 female shooters at the Prairie Circuit Classic (Oct. 1-2), becoming the first shooter in the history of the program to claim a first-place finish.
As a team, Helmer’s squad placed third among the nine teams at the event held at Wildlife Gun Club in North Platte, Neb. The Bulldogs’ score of 2,189 trailed only Midland and Fort Hays State University (Kan.) atop the leaderboard. A total of 10 shooters represented Concordia.
Lokke, a native of Saint Francis, Minn., shined while posting scores of 98 in skeet, 95 in trap, 90 in double skeet, 92 in double trap and 79 in 5-stand for a total of 454. Second-place finisher Jenny Schoenecker of Fort Hays State came in next with her total of 446.
On the men’s side, Helmer’s squad was paced by freshman Riley Meyer (449), who finished just outside the top 20 amongst a field of 74. Concordia’s top five was rounded out by Ethan Cradick (436), Seth Willard (432) and Mitchell Charron (418).
Next up for the Bulldogs is the SCTP Central Region Open Championship, slated for Oct. 15-16 at the Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island, Neb. Two additional events remain before Concordia completes its fall season of competition.
