BRAINARD, Neb. – Concordia University trap and skeet hosted its own event for the first time in what was billed as the Concordia Sporting Clays Invitational, which was held at Oak Creek Sporting Club in Brainard, Neb., Oct. 22-23. Among seven teams in competition, the Bulldogs placed third while sophomore Erin Lokke again starred, winning the super sporting category on the women’s side.
With a score of 1,500, Concordia placed behind only Midland (1,583) and Fort Hays State University (Kan.) (1,533). Fourth through seventh place teams were Hastings (1,444), Missouri University of Science and Technology (1,432), Kansas State University (1,382) and Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (1,179), respectively.
Freshman Wyatt Pursell emerged from the event as the high overall for head coach Joel Helmer’s squads. Pursell’s total of 315 topped all Bulldogs and placed him fifth among the field of 84 shooters. The rest of Concordia’s top five included senior Seth Willard (308), Lokke (294), freshman Riley Meyer (293) and sophomore Ethan Cradick (290). Lokke, a native of Saint Francis, Minn., finished second overall among female competitors.
Pursell outgunned his teammates in sporting (182) and super sporting (94). Willard turned in the Bulldogs’ top score in 5-stand (46).
