HAYS, Kan. – Second-year head coach Joel Helmer took a group of nine competitors to the Fort Hays State University tournament to open the season for Concordia University trap and skeet on Sept. 19-20. The Bulldogs placed sixth among the eight teams in the field (score of 1,643) while getting strong individual efforts from freshman Erin Lokke and sophomore Justin Zuhlke.

“Overall, it was a good first tournament,” Helmer said. “For many of the team members it was the first time they had shot wobble trap and double trap in a tournament.”

The tournament featured four different types of singles events: skeet, wobble trap, trap and trap doubles. Lokke’s combined score of 336 placed her sixth High Over All (HOA) on the women’s side. Lokke won the skeet event with an 89/100 that included a 25 straight.

Zuhlke turned in the highest score for the Bulldog men with 344 out of 400. He posted a 97/100 in the American trap. He also had 93/100 in the wobble trap, 83/100 in trap doubles and 71/100 in the skeet competition.

Other Bulldogs in action in Hays, Kan., were sophomore Seth Willard (332), junior Kendall Schick (307), freshman Ethan Cradick (307), freshman Mitchell Charron (303), sophomore Korbin Reich (285), junior Kali Robb (275) and junior Aubrey Schultz (214).

The team’s next competition will be the SCTP Central Region Open Championship in Grand Island, Neb., on Oct. 16-18.
