SEWARD, Neb. – Freshman Wyatt Pursell appears to have a promising collegiate career ahead of him for head coach Joel Helmer’s trap and skeet program. In August Pursell competed at the SCTP’s International National Championships and was one of four competitors to earn a spot on the USA National Junior Team.

Making the USA National Junior Team is the first step towards making the National Development Team, and then the Olympic team. The SCTP is the official feeder program to USA Shooting, hosting several Junior Olympic Development Camps each year for its registered athletes and coaches.

A native of Topeka, Kan., Pursell shined at the event that included 101 shooters from 16 different states. Pursell earned his place on the national junior team in skeet and bunker trap. Pursell, who competed with the Kansas City Crushers, posted a score of 117 in skeet (second best) and 114 in bunker trap (fifth) in an event that took place at the Olympic Shooting Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Pursell and the Bulldogs will compete in an event for the first time in 2016-17 when they take aim during the Park City Shocker Fall Classic at the Ark Valley Gun Club in Valley Center, Kan., this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 10-11).
