Bulldogs place 12th; Lokke makes waves at ACUI Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Concordia University trap and skeet team made its second journey to the national championships since the program got started under head coach Joel Helmer. In the 49th annual ACUI Collegiate Clay Target Championships held in San Antonio, Texas, the Bulldogs hit 2,058 total targets and placed 12th out of 14 teams in the Division 2 section of the grand event (March 28 – April 2).

The ACUI Championships featured a total of 828 student-athletes from 85 schools. The teams are broken down into divisions based upon the number of competitors entered into the field. Concordia traveled 17 team members to the event. Said Helmer, “With a young team of mainly freshmen and sophomores, this was a good experience that we can build on for next fall.”

The biggest standout all year long for Helmer’s program has been Saint Francis, Minn., native Erin Lokke. The sophomore finished 21st high overall on the women’s side with a total of 464. By placing third in the international skeet shoot off, Lokke earned a spot on the USA Shooting/ACUI Collegiate Team. Lokke also placed fourth in American skeet.

Additionally, Katarina Borg placed second in five stand in Class B while Mitchell Charron finished sixth in the same category. In terms of high overall, the top five Bulldogs on the men’s side were Seth Willard (483), Kendall Schick (456), Ethan Cradick (455), Dustin Renfro (454) and Charron (448). Following Lokke on the women’s sider were Borg (442), Jordan Kerns-Schneider (404), Sabra Moore (385) and Kate Esser (361).

The season is now complete for the Bulldogs, who competed in a total of nine events throughout the 2016-17 academic year.
