MITCHELL, S.D. – Junior Kennedy Mogul quickly turned in the first individual GPAC title of the weekend as the Concordia University track and field teams and their conference rivals convened inside the Avera Sports and Wellness Complex in Mitchell, S.D. Mogul and four other Bulldog multi-event athletes competed as part of the opening day at the 2020 GPAC Indoor Track & Field Championship. The meet will heat up and eventually conclude on Saturday (Feb. 22).

Head coach Matt Beisel’s squads have high hopes for what this weekend will bring. Concordia enters the conference meet with NAIA national rankings of second on the women’s side and fifth on the men’s side.

Mogul has certainly done her part in the bid for a third-straight women’s GPAC track and field title (swept team 2019 indoor/outdoor championships). Ranked second nationally in the pentathlon heading into the weekend, Mogul produced a personal best of 9.12 in the 60 meter hurdles and a season best of 4’ 9 ½” in the high jump on her way to a championship. While seizing the first individual GPAC title of her career, Mogul accounted for 10 team points.

Another nine team points came courtesy of pentathlon finishes of second by junior Emily Loy (3,118) and eighth by sophomore Kaylee Boyle (2,746). Both of those point totals represented personal bests for Loy and Boyle. PR’s were turned in by Loy in the 800, shot put and hurdles and by Boyle in the 800 and hurdles.

On the men’s side, the heptathlon competition featured four events on Friday: the 60 meter dash, long jump, shot put and high jump. With those disciplines in the books, Concordia junior Jeremiah Reeser (2,457 points) stands in fourth place while sophomore Zack Gentry (2,029 points) resides in ninth place. The final three events of the heptathlon (60 hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meters) will be contested on Saturday.

The action will pick back up on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT when the heptathlon resumes. The first field events will get going at 10 a.m. and running events will begin at 2 p.m. The schedule of events can be viewed HERE.
