From a big picture view, Concordia athletes have combined for four automatic national qualifying standards and seven NAIA B standards through three weekends of indoor competition. At last week’s Polar Dog Invite, sophomore Adysen McCarter improved upon her school record in the triple jump (39’ 1 ¼”). She currently ranks No. 5 nationally in the event. In addition, Hayden Kluthe added a B standard in the 60-meter hurdles (8.14) with a near school record time. Notably, Jonny Jurchen (3,000-meter racewalk) and Adrianna Rodencal (60-meter hurdles) repeated A standards (but did not eclipse their personal bests). Additionally, Rodencal put a fresh B standard on the board in the 400 meters.

NOTE: Adrianna Rodencal and Josi Noble currently rank 10th and 12th, respectively, on the NAIA women’s pentathlon national list.

The weather played a role in limiting the Concordia Polar Dog Invite field to seven total teams (with some bringing only select athletes for events such as the racewalk). The Bulldogs came away from the meet with 12 event championships, which were won by the women’s 4x800-meter relay (10:16.03), Avery Eaves in the 200 meters (22.39), Jax Jacobson in the pole vault (14’ 7 ¼”), Jurchen in the 3,000-meter racewalk (13:12.61), Kluthe in the 60 hurdles (8.14), McCarter in the triple jump (39’ 1 ¼”), Kiki Nyanok in the long jump (17’ 2”), Rodencal in the 60 hurdles (8.47), Myles Sadd in the long jump (21’ 8 ¼”) and high jump (6’ 2 ¼”), Keith Siek in the 800 meters (1:58.39) and Makenna Starkey in the high jump (5’ 3 ¼”).

From a conference perspective, Concordia athletes with GPAC leading marks are Josiah Edwards in the weight throw, Jurchen in the racewalk, Kluthe in the 60 hurdles, McCarter in the triple jump, Rodencal in the 60 hurdles and pentathlon and Starkey in the high jump. The Bulldog women’s and men’s teams currently own a combined 27 marks that rank within the top five on the conference leaderboard. That list can be found HERE.

Following the Concordia Classic, the Bulldogs will be away from home the weekend of Feb. 6-7 for action at the Sevigne Husker Invitational and Fred Beile Invite. The final home meet of the indoor season will be the Concordia Indoor Invitational on Feb. 14.
