Entering the meet, head coach Matt Beisel’s squads own NAIA national ratings of seventh on the women’s side and 20th on the men’s side, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association calculation. The University of British Columbia boasts the top-ranked squads for both men and women.
The Concordia women will be represented by 12 athletes at the national meet. The crew features previous All-America award winners in Abby Gerber (3x), Kayla Kirchner (2x), Adrianna Rodencal (1x), Isabelle Salters (1x), Gretchen Stottlemyre (1x), Trinity Tuls (4x) and Abi Wohlgemuth (2x). The women’s team placed 20th in the NAIA at the 2025 indoor national meet in Gainesville, Fla., behind All-America performances from Gerber (eighth in shot put), Rodencal (fifth in 60 hurdles) and Wohlgemuth (second in weight throw). Rodencal will be especially busy in Marion as she competes in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles and as part of the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays. Heading into the national meet, the Bulldogs own five top-five national seed marks courtesy of Rodencal in the 400 hurdles (second) and 100 hurdles (third), Wohlgemuth (third in hammer), the 4x4 relay (fourth) and Gerber in the shot put (fifth). Six women’s senior athletes will end their collegiate careers at the meet (Gerber, Emily Loseke, Salters, Stottlemyre, Tuls and Wohlgemuth).
The men’s program placed seventh in the NAIA at the 2024 outdoor national meet behind national champions Chris Wren (hammer) and Zach Zohner (pole vault). Those star Bulldogs moved on after graduating. However, three of the men’s eight qualifiers own All-America medals: Jonny Jurchen (1x), Mayson Ostermeyer (2x) and Austen Rozelle (1x). Both Jurchen (race walk) and Ostermeyer (pole vault) are coming off All-America performances this past indoor season and swept 2025 GPAC indoor/outdoor conference titles in their respective events. The Crofton, Neb., native Ostermeyer is seeded second nationally in the pole vault (16’ 6 ¾”). Meanwhile, Nathan Baldwin is seeded fifth in the discus. Both Baldwin and Sam Olson will make their first career appearances at a national meet. On the other end of the spectrum, the meet will mark the swan song for seniors Connor Asche and Austen Rozelle.
According to the USTFCCCA, the Bulldogs boast many event groupings that rank highly within the NAIA. Based on the coaches association’s event squad rankings, Concordia ranks top five nationally in the following events: women’s heptathlon (first), men’s hammer (second), men’s race walk (second), men’s javelin (third), men’s shot put (third), women’s shot put (third), women’s triple jump (third), men’s discus (fourth), women’s 100 hurdles (fourth), women’s hammer (fourth), women’s javelin (fourth), women’s long jump (fourth) and women’s steeplechase (fourth).
Both Bulldog programs have won an NAIA outdoor national championship in their history – 2015 for the men and 2016 for the women. During Beisel’s tenure, the Concordia track programs have earned a total of seven NAIA top-four team trophies with six coming on the women’s side and one on the men’s side. The men placed as the NAIA indoor national runner up in 2017 while the women have placed third four separate times (and fourth twice) since 2017.
The NAIA will stream the national championships via the NAIA Network: https://www.naia.org/watch/index.
