SEWARD, Neb. – Courtesy of their performances at the Concordia Bulldog Early Bird meet, junior Josiah Edwards and sophomore Adysen McCarter represented Concordia University, Nebraska Track & Field with recognition. On Wednesday (Dec. 17), the league office tabbed Edwards the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Field Athlete of the Week and McCarter the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Field Athlete of the Week. The announcement marked the first GPAC weekly awards for the 2025-26 indoor track & field season.
A native of Elk Grove, Calif., Edwards picked up his first career GPAC athlete of the week award. In his lone event at the Early Bird meet, Edwards landed a personal best weight throw mark of 59’ 2 ¼.” That mark set a new personal best and puts Edwards on the board with an NAIA B national qualifying standard. He currently ranks No. 1 in the GPAC and No. 3 in the NAIA in the event. In his career, Edwards is a three-time GPAC All-Conference award winner. He is a Journalism and Public Relations major.
McCarter, who hails from Overton, Neb., now boasts school records for both the indoor and outdoor triple jump. She took over the top spot on the program’s indoor list by soaring a distance of 39’ 1” at the Early Bird meet. She won the event and automatically qualified for the national meet. McCarter currently ranks fourth nationally (first in the GPAC) in the event. Also at the Early Bird, McCarter ran the leadoff leg for the 4x400-meter relay, which clocked an NAIA B standard (converted to 3:54.26), and ran a 60-meter dash time of 7.96. McCarter has qualified for nationals for the third time in her young career. She is a Pre-Chiropractic major.
Head Coach Matt Beisel’s squads will be off for Christmas break. The next action on the schedule will take place the weekend of Jan. 16-17 – University of Nebraska-Lincoln Graduate Classic and Scott Nisely Memorial Classic hosted by Doane.
