
FULTON, Mo. – Nick Velders went undefeated against the No. 17 William Woods University (Mo.) but the home Owls seized the eventual team win, 2-4, on Saturday. Culminating three matches in three days, Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Tennis were able to take two singles points and one in doubles. Velders has yet to see defeat with a 13-0 record in singles play this season.
Head Coach Lisa Hart and company fall to 12-3 after going 2-1 in the last three days.
“I am extremely proud of this group,” Coach Hart said. “The way they are competing, playing for each other and representing our university is special. We are knocking on the door - good things are in store for this group.”
No. 3 Daniel Caballeros bested Noah Burton (6-4, 6-3) to get the Bulldogs rolling in the win column. The Guatemalan has a 10-3 record with an 8-2 showing in the third slot.
Velders at No. 2, remained masterful in his play to defeat Cole Horton 6-3, 6-2. An Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, product, Velders has a 31-2 career record at Concordia.
Paired with Ognjen Gajic at No. 3 doubles for the third time, the two won over Paulo Lopes Ferreira and Bruno Matta, 6-3. The duo has gone unbeaten in the three matches.
No. 6 Santiago Abadia went unfinished (6-3, 0-3).
No. 1 Hugo Fuentes, No. 4 Ben Chisholm and No. 5 Leo Lopez competed in individual play.
Concordia (12-3) will finally enter GPAC play hosting Hastings (0-10) on Wednesday (March 25). The Bulldogs will serve at 4:30 p.m. CT at the Bulldog Tennis Courts.
