SEWARD, Neb. – Nick Velders has been honored for the second time this season as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The second-year transfer has been dynamite since arriving on campus, as he went 3-0 in singles and doubles in the last seven days. He also received the honor once earlier this month (March 4).
The Netherlands native has yet to lose a set on his way to 13-0 as the No. 2 for Concordia Men’s Tennis. He helped the Bulldogs defeat Seward County Community College (5-2) and Missouri Valley College (5-2). CUNE dropped a tight one to No. 17 William Woods University (Mo.), 2-4, where Velders also defeated an Owl in straight sets.
Since being paired with Ognjen Gajic, Velders has gone 3-0 in duo play with an 18-8 game advantage.
Ranked No. 31 in the most recent ITA release, Velders has been unstoppable in singles with a 32-2 record since walking onto the university in Seward. He is 25-10 in doubles in the almost two years of competition.
Concordia will face Hastings today (March 25) for senior day at 4 p.m. CT.
