Lopez unblemished week draws first conference honor

SEWARD, Neb. – The league office announced the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday (April 14). Leo Lopez was selected for his first career weekly award after going 2-0 in singles and doubles to complete the two sweeps of Midland and Mount Marty. Lopez joins Daniel Caballeros (March 31) and Nick Velders (March 4, March 25) as players from Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Tennis to win the award this season.

The Bulldogs’ Lopez outclassed both of his opponents in straight sets in individual play winning by a combined 24-5 games in the two matches. In doubles, the Bolivian, paired with Caballeros, defeated their opponents (7-5, 6-1) in each set. Concordia was spurred on by Lopez to defeat the Warriors, 7-0, and the Lancers, 7-0.

The freshman has won four out of his last five singles matches and has earned a 14-2 record combined at the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots. He is 7-2 in doubles and 6-1 with Caballeros at No. 1s.

Concordia will compete against in-state Doane on Thursday in Crete, Neb.
