High energy Dawgs face Broncos on senior day, travel to Morningside

SEWARD, Neb. – The passionate Bulldogs will face Hastings for their senior day matchup on Wednesday (March 25). Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Tennis will then travel to the 2025 GPAC Champion Morningside over the weekend. CUNE will honor four seniors on Wednesday.

This Week

Wednesday, March 25 vs. Hastings (0-10), 4 p.m.

Saturday, March 28 at No. 14 Morningside (14-4), 12 p.m.
--Location: Mason Family Tennis Complex (Sioux City, Iowa)

The Bulldogs are 12-3 this season and had the second-best start in program history with an 8-0 initial run. They have big wins over the University of Saint Mary (4-1), McPherson College (4-3), and Grand View University (7-0). Concordia has outscored its opponents 70-28 in points this season with a 61-22 record in singles and a 27-16 showing in paired matches.

As CUNE Men’s Tennis enters conference play, it finished in a three-way tie with Mount Marty and Midland for second place with each having a 4-2 record. The 2025 squad received the third seed in the tiebreak of the GPAC tournament but finished as runner up in the conference playoff. The Bulldogs Doane (4-0) in the quarterfinals and Mount Marty (4-3) in the semis to make the final. They dropped the championship to Morningside (0-4).

Senior day will honor Santiago Abadia, Michael Bedrosian, Hugo Fuentes and Nick Velders. Abadia, a business administration major, has 33 singles career wins with a 7-3 showing this season. As a junior, he broke the single season doubles win record (16) and has a career 43-24 record. Bedrosian, an accounting major, has 19 wins in singles and 10 in doubles. Fuentes, a physics major, has 25 wins in singles (primarily at No. 1) in his career and 32 in paired play. Velders, an exercise science major, won the 2025 GPAC Player of the Year last season with a 19-2 slate in individual play. Primarily at No. 2, Velders is currently ranked No. 31 in ITA Singles Tennis rankings and has an unbeaten record (13-0) this year accounting for a 32-2 performance. He is 25-10 in doubles in his time as a Bulldog.

Upcoming Opponents

The Broncos are 0-10 on the season starting conference play against the Bulldogs. They will face Doane on Tuesday before Concordia. The No. 14 Mustangs are 14-4 with wins over Mcpherson (6-1), No. 18 William Woods University (4-3), No. 22 Tennessee Southern University (4-3) and No. 13 Missouri Baptist University (4-1). They have three ranked ITA players including No. 15 Marcos Menendez, No. 17 Alexis Diaz and No. 30 Mathys Arnold.

Up next

Concordia will have the following week off before taking on Midland and Mount Marty the following weekend. The Bulldogs will host the Warriors at the Bulldog Tennis Courts before traveling to South Dakota to compete against the Lancers.
