Dawgs look to get back on track versus NWC

SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia Men’s Tennis team is set to host Northwestern on Saturday (Apr. 6) in Seward. Ranked closely in the conference, the Bulldogs will need to bring their A-game against the Red Raiders inside Walz Fieldhouse. CUNE fell to Morningside and the University of Nebraska-Kearney in the past two duals.  Head Coach Lisa Hart’s group is 5-10 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

By the numbers

·       In the most recent conference rankings, Concordia was ranked 5th as Northwestern is ranked just behind them in the conference poll. With four duals remaining, the Bulldogs can move up in the standings, being winless in the conference so far. The team finished fourth last season and the program has not finished outside the top four since the 2017-18 season.

·       Morningside and UNK swept Concordia in both duals as the Mustangs showed why they were picked at No. 1 in the GPAC. The division II Lopers moved through the Bulldogs, not giving up a single match and moving to 9-6 on the season.

·       The Bulldogs have totaled 24 singles wins and 15 in doubles. Michael Bedrosian leads the team in singles with six, as Abadia (five) and Manuel Rodriguez (four) follow. The two pace the team in doubles victories (four) and have the highest winning percentage (80) of the pairings. Abadia and Bedrosian have captured three and Luke Johnson and Grady works have collected two.

·       The Red Raiders have yet to play a GPAC match but will face Midland on Friday before taking on the Bulldogs. Northwestern comes into the week on a three dual win streak. It has defeated a trio of opponents (5-4) starting with Central College (Iowa), St. Olaf College (Minn.) and Wartburg College (Iowa). The visitors are led by Leandro Costa, who has mounted a 7-2 overall record playing mostly at No. 4 with a 5-1 record.

Next week

Concordia will face Doane and Wartburg next week. The Dawgs will travel to Crete, Neb. to face the Tigers in conference play and host the Knights for their last non-conference dual on Saturday.
