Dawgs get back on track in sweep of Vikings

SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Tennis turned in a commanding performance inside the Walz Fieldhouse, sweeping Grand View, 7-0, on Friday (March 6). The Bulldogs controlled the dual from start to finish, claiming all nine bouts to bagel the Vikings.

Head Coach Lisa Hart and company are 9-1 starting a new win streak.

No. 3 Daniel Caballeros clinched the fourth and decisive team point for Concordia at No. 3 singles, battling through a tightly contested match against Grand View’s Tasev. Caballeros secured the opening set, 6-3, before Tasev responded in the second (4-6). The first-year transfer junior regrouped in the match tiebreaker, outlasting Tasev, 10-8, to seal the dual victory for the Bulldogs. Caballeros is now on a seven-match win streak in singles play.

Ben Chisholm delivered one of the most dominant performances of the afternoon at No. 4 singles, blanking Adrian Reyes in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. The shutout win helped maintain Concordia’s commanding momentum as the lineup continued to roll.

At the top of the order, Hugo Fuentes controlled his matchup at No. 1 singles, defeating Alecson Deschamps, 6-1, 6-3.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Bulldogs established control by sweeping the doubles competition. Ognjen Gajic and Fuentes powered to a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot over Deschamps and Enzo Naveda Canessa. Concordia followed with two more tight wins as Ben Chisholm and Nick Velders earned a 7-5 decision at No. 2 doubles, while Santiago Abadia and Caballeros matched that score with a 7-5 triumph at the No. 3 position.

CUNE rounded out the sweep with singles victories from Nick Velders at No. 2 (6-4, 6-0), Leo Lopez at No. 5 (6-4, 6-1) and Michael Bedrosian at No. 6 (6-1, 7-5) to secure the 7-0 shutout.

The Bulldogs (9-1) will have their work cut out for them against unbeaten No. 14 Missouri Baptist University (6-0) tomorrow in St. Louis, Mo. The Bulldogs will serve at 3 p.m. CT at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
