SEWARD, Neb. – The Concordia University men’s tennis team got off to a strong start to open the season. In action on Saturday (Sept. 12), the Bulldogs defeated NCAA D-II William Jewell College 4-3.

Second-year head coach David DeSimone’s squad avenged last year’s 7-0 loss to the Cardinals.

From a team scoring perspective, the Bulldogs took four of the six singles matches. The tightest individual match occurred at No. 3 singles where Junior Isaac Howes defeated Max Wheeler 6-4 and 6-3. Senior Luke Zoller won at the No. 1 spot, 6-3 and 10-8. Additional singles victors were sophomore Jaun Rabellino at No. 4 and sophomore Joe Bindl at No. 5.

The Concordia combos in doubles play featured Berryman and Kitson at No. 1, Rabellino and senior Luke Zoller at No. 2 and Bindl and Velaquiz at No. 3. Zoller and Rabellino were the lone doubles victors for the Bulldogs as they defeated the Cardinals 6-3.

William Jewell (0-1) competes as a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Bulldogs are scheduled back in action on September 18 as they compete in the GPAC Individual Tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska.
