
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The win train continues to pick up steam as the Bulldogs cracked down on two teams out of Kansas on Sunday (Feb. 22) inside the Genesis Health Club. Concordia University, Nebraska’s depth was on display not giving up a point in singles play over the University of Saint Mary, 4-1, and Baker University, 4-1. Caballeros went 3-0 in all three potential points and clinched the match against the Spires.
The Seward lineup has piled up a 7-0 record overall to keep from being beaten in the 2026 campaign.
“The doubles point was a heartbreaker against USM,” Head Coach Lisa Hart said. “Losing two close tiebreakers for the doubles point is always difficult emotionally. The way our team responded in singles, I can’t be more proud. They showed heart, grit and the competitive spirit they all competed with was awesome to watch. Our team is special, and the team chemistry is as strong as I’ve ever seen. We are excited for our upcoming opportunities.”
Saint Mary escaped with the early doubles point after two extra play sets and put up a fight with each of the four singles wins having at least one tiebreak. No. 3 Caballeros and the Dawgs jumped in celebration as he defeated Evan Maritz, 6-2, 6-7(6), 10-7 grabbing the team win for the second straight time.
No. 5 Leo Lopez was the first to finish over Korbin Priestly 4-6, 6-2 (10-6). The freshman of out of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, has yet to be beaten in singles for his first campaign, going 5-0 thus far.
Hugo Fuentes (No. 1) and Nick Velders (No. 2) defeated their opponents against the Spires. The Spainard Fuentes battled it out at the top spot winning 3-6, 6-3 (10-8). Velders defeated Carlos Grimaldi in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (5) as the Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, product defeated Baker’s Immo Ferger, 6-1, 6-2.
No. 5 Abadia defeated River Flaska (6-2, 6-3) of the BU to clinch the second match on Sunday. The senior out of Bogotá, Colombia, also has a 5-0 record in singles play.
Ben Chisholm at No. 3 bested the Wildcats’ Corvin Christ 7-5, 6-2 in consecutive rounds.
The Australian Chisholm and Velders at No. 2s, defeated their Baker opponents, 6-1, and No. 1s Fuentes and Ognjen Gajic won 7-5 to seal the doubles point.
Concordia (7-0) will compete against a tough McPherson College (1-1) on Friday (Feb. 27). The match will be played at a neutral site at the Fremont YMCA with the first toss at 11 a.m. CT.
