Women’s Tennis defeats Warriors handily

SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Women’s Tennis came out strong inside Walz Fieldhouse trouncing Sterling College (Kan.), 6-1, in the route on Saturday (Feb. 7) morning. The Bulldogs won the first six matches, with Ishane Derman clinching the team's winning point. With the impressive performance, the navy and white only gave up 18 games in all nine matchups.

The Dawgs are 3-1 thus far playing two in two bouts in the spring.

“Very proud of our team today,” Head Coach Lisa Hart said. “They battled hard and had great composure throughout doubles and singles. We are excited to start preparation for another match on Thursday!”

With the Warriors down two players, Concordia stepped on the gas early with back-to-back wins in doubles play featuring No. 2s Alexa Richert and Chakira Derman. The pair dialed in for an unscathed 6-0 set to clinch the double point against Hannah Giordanelli and Jessica Gautreau. No. 1s Mariana Molano and Alana Lopez Pagan defeated Danna Arroyo and Greta Fankhauser to finish 3-0 in duo competitions.

Up 3-0, No. 4 Ishane went at a blistering pace to best Gautreau in consecutive sets (6-0, 6-0) without giving in a game. The all-time single season wins leader (2024-25) seized her second victory of her sophomore campaign. Following suit, Lopez Pagan won over Fankhauser (6-0, 6-0) keeping the barreling train going further into the win column.

No. 2 Chakira came in not far behind with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Giordanelli as all three singles wins were in straight frames.

Molano competed at No. 1 singles for the women.

Concordia (3-1) will face off against Pratt Community College on Thursday (Feb. 12) at the Walz Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs’ first serve is set for 2 p.m. CT in Seward.
