Farritor and Hart lead offense in split with Chargers

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Bulldogs continued their hot streak of getting on base with 19 hits in a split versus Briar Cliff on Saturday (March 21). Concordia University, Nebraska Softball defeated the Chargers in game one, 4-3, and fell in the second, 8-6. Keira Farritor hit a bases clearing double to take the initial contest.  

Head Coach Brock Culler and Dawgs are 12-8 and 1-1 in conference play.

“Overall, our team, just the amount of competitiveness is one of the best I have been around,” Coach Culler said. “They just constantly work hard. They are grinding and positive. They are very supportive and played hard through a lot of adversity. We had a lot of things that didn’t go our way and they didn’t let it get to them. Our hitters are making the pitchers give them what they want. Coming into the game, we have nine players hitting over .300. I was really proud of how our team competed today. I wish we could have gotten two of them.”

Down 3-2 with two outs in the final inning, Farritor came in clutch knocking a two-run double to take the lead. Kaylei Denison was subbed in for Linn inside the circle and delivered a punch out with the bases loaded to seal a victory. Laycee Josoff pushed across the first score (Grace Maguire).

Farritor went 4-for-6 on the day driving in five runs Which included the game winner in the first. The designated player hailing from Malcom, Neb., Farritor has came through in critical at-bats with eight hits (two extra-base), six RBIs, two walks in the four games this week. The sophomore now has the leading batting average at .449.

After a rough outing in game one on Friday, Mary Beth Hart clawed out six hits in the two bouts going 6-for-9 to score a whopping six of the team's 12 runs. Hart, out of Lincoln Southwest, tacked on two runs batted in and a stolen base.

In game two, it came down to the final frame once against as the Dawgs were down two with the bases loaded and Hart at the plate. The Charger pitcher was able to get a groundout and force a split.

In the final outing, Taryn Ganstrom (2-for-3) and Aubriana Krieser (2-for-4) contributed two hits apiece with the shortstop earning two RBIs. Josoff went 2-for 5 on the afternoon.

Denison (6-4) earned the win in her start allowing three hits, one earned run, three walks and two strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Concordia (12-8) will play its final non-conference game against Bellevue University (11-13) on Wednesday (March 25). The Bulldogs and Bruins will play one game starting at 6 p.m. CT at the Renner Dennis Outdoor Athletic Complex.
