
SEWARD, Neb. – A transformed Bulldog team will look to start with the right step hosting Columbia College (Mo.) on Saturday night (Aug. 23). Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Soccer will compete against the Cougars in Bulldog Stadium with half the roster coming from new faces. The seasoned Head Coach Jason Weides will enter his 18th campaign as the side manager.

With 171 career wins, Coach Weides will send out an 11 that could include all-conference honorees such as Nolan Fuelberth, Sean Stratman and Mike Wyvill. Other notable returners are Oliver Benson, Ryan Brown, Hugo Garrote, Mattis Hollnagel, Slade Leicht, Kai Olbrich and Adrian Wambua. The roster has 17 different players and all eyes will be on the pitch to see who will make an impact early in the campaign.
Concordia finished second in the regular season standings behind Morningside in a GPAC season that saw at least five teams with the possibility of winning the championship in the final week. It was a season of deadlocks as the home squad tied nine times on its way to an 8-3-9 record (6-0-4 GPAC) The Dawgs would defeat Briar Cliff (1-1) in a penalty kick shootout and Northwestern (3-2) in the semifinals. Hastings would finish Concordia’s season in the tournament final, just missing out on the national tournament.
Columbia
The Cougars will begin their season slate with the Bulldogs after finishing with a 12-4-4 overall record, including a tie with the Seward side. Having a similar path in their conference tournament, Columbia defeated Harris-Stowe State University (Mo.) in a 4-0 shutout and upset William Woods University (Mo.) in a 1-0 final. In the AMC Championship, the Cougars fell shy (1-0) to Missouri Baptist University. Columbia brings back All-AMC honorees Wil Essner and Brady Freeman.
Next Week
Concordia will hit the road for the first time against William Woods and Missouri Baptist. The Bulldogs will be in Missouri for both games, competing in Fulton, then St. Louis.
