NEWTON, Kan. – Freshman Calvin Zabloudil emerged as the lone Bulldog to improve his score from day one to day two at the Bethel College Spring Invitational. Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Golf settled into a tie for seventh place as the tournament concluded on Sunday (March 29) from blustery Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. Freshman Logan Krabbenhoft placed 22nd for the Bulldogs’ highest individual place finish.
Over the two-round event, Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad shot 313-331–644 (+68). The Bethel Invite field was made up of 14 teams and more than 70 individuals.
“I thought the men played really well for the first 13 holes yesterday,” Muller said “We were actually in first place and ended up playing the last five at plus-12 and slid to sixth. Unfortunately, today was a lot of the same as the last several holes yesterday.”
Concordia found itself atop the Bethel Invite leaderboard after the first 13 holes played on Saturday. The rest of the tournament didn’t go as planned. However, Krabbenhoft and fellow rookie Tyler Weismann turned in solid 76s in round one. They held onto top 30 place finishes. Krabbenhoft shot 76-84–160 for the tournament and Weismann carded a total of 76-85–161 (tied for 26th).
There was very little separation throughout the Bulldog lineup. All five Concordia competitors shot totals ranging from 160 to 166 in Newton. The lineup was rounded out by senior Jake Richmond (80-82–162; T-30th), Zabloudil (83-80–163; T-36th) and senior Brock Rogers (81-85–166; 44th). As a comparison, tournament champion Noah Sandlin of Tyler Junior College shot 75-74–149. Notably, three of the five Concordia golfers birdied hole 4 on Sunday.
In the team standings, the Bulldogs defeated other NAIA competition in Tabor College (647), Dakota Wesleyan (652), Oklahoma Panhandle State University (668) and host Bethel (704). Tyler JC won the tournament with a total of 605.
