FREMONT, Neb. – Freshman Calvin Zabloudil entered the second round of the Nebraska Intercollegiate in the running for a tournament championship. He wound up earning a ninth-place medal while leading the way for Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Golf at an event with state bragging rights at stake. The Bulldogs climbed one spot in the team standings and finished fourth out of the eight in-state programs in the field. The two-day event (Oct. 6-7) was held at Fremont Golf Club in Fremont, Neb.

Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad shot 303-301–604 (+36) for the tournament. Four of the five Concordia competitors shot 75 or better on Tuesday as the rainy and chilly conditions from the previous day gave way to sunny skies.

Said Muller of Zabloudil’s efforts, “Calvin had a great round yesterday. He finished a little rocky in round one, but to finish in the top 10 of this tournament is a pretty good accomplishment.”

A Gretna East High School alum, Zabloudil earned the highest place finish of his young collegiate career. He shot even par (71) in Monday’s round and finished nine strokes behind the tournament champion. Zabloudil shot 71-76–147 for the event. His 71 was one stroke shy of a single round personal best (shot 70 in the final round of the Blue River Classic). A major highlight of Zabloudil’s Nebraska Intercollegiate efforts was his eagle on hole 8 on Monday.

The rest of the lineup was tightly bunched on the player leaderboard. Senior Jake Richmond (77-75–152), freshman Tyler Weismann (78-75–153) and sophomore Jude Elgert (80-75–155) all shot four-over-par 75s in Tuesday’s round. They placed in the 15th through 21st range out of the 40 golfers in the field. Freshman Logan Krabbenhoft rounded out the lineup by shooting 77-79–156.

In the team race, the Bulldogs placed behind Midland (581), Doane (586) and Southeast Community College (589). Concordia beat out Hastings (607), Nebraska Wesleyan (613), McCook Community College (634) and Central Community College (646). The 301 team score achieved by the Bulldogs in round two of the Nebraska Intercollegiate represented their second best of the fall season to date (behind only a 299 at the Siouxland Invite).
