NEWTON, Kan. – The winds calmed down for round two of the Bethel Spring Invitational, which was staged at Hesston Municipal Golf Park in Hesston, Kan., on a cold and blustery Saturday and then Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan., on Sunday (April 6). The Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Golf team improved on day two while finishing in sixth place out of 11 groupings in the tournament field. Individually, junior Jake Richmond just missed out on a medal while placing sixth out of 65 golfers.
The event marked the third varsity outing of the spring for Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad. The Bulldogs shot 320-316–636 (+64) for the tournament. Unlike most events, Concordia did not compete against any GPAC competition at the Bethel Invite.
A native of Elkhorn, Neb., Richmond carded a two-round total of 75-76–151 (+8) while navigating a par 71 on Saturday and a par 72 on Sunday. Muller noted that Richmond put together a solid two days of ball striking and fell short of the top five due to some missed putts. Richmond also placed third at the Doane Spring Invitational and has taken over the team lead in terms of lowest 2024-25 season scoring average (75.9).
Two other Bulldogs carded scores in the 70s on Sunday as sophomore Jacob Dowd (81-79–160) and senior Justin Webert (83-79–162) placed in the top half of the tournament field. Senior Jaxson Fullerton (81-82–163) finished close behind and junior Brock Rogers (88-83–171) rounded out the team’s lineup. In addition, freshman Landon Weinandt competed as an individual and shot 86-93–179.
