NEWTON, Kan. – In its first action since breaking the school record for lowest single round team score, Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Golf flirted with the lead in Saturday (March 28)’s first round of the Bethel College Spring Invitational. The Bulldogs wound up tied for fifth at the conclusion of the tournament’s first day at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. Concordia was led by freshmen Logan Krabbenhoft and Tyler Weismann, who both shot four over par.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad turned in a team score of 313 (+25) in outperforming the majority of a field of 13 teams at the Bethel Invite. The Bulldogs (who led after 13 holes) will enter round two six strokes behind tournament leader Tyler Junior College.
Krabbenhoft and Weismann are situated in a tie for sixth place out of nearly 70 golfers in the field. By shooting 76s on Saturday, the two freshmen are just one stroke out of the lead (five players tied for first). Three over part was the best any individual managed to shoot on a windy and chilly day in Newton.
The rest of Concordia’s grouping was made up of seniors Jake Richmond (80; T-31st) and Brock Rogers (81; T-34th) and freshman Calvin Zabloudil (83; T-41st). Collectively, they helped the Bulldogs outperform five competing NAIA teams, including GPAC rival Dakota Wesleyan.
