HESSTON, Kan. – Sixty-five golfers were forced to grind through day one of the Bethel Spring Invitational held in Hesston, Kan., on Saturday (April 5). The Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Golf team emerged with a team score of 320 on a day featuring strong wind gusts and temperatures in the 40s. Individually, junior Jake Richmond cut through the wind and shot a four-over-par 75 at Hesston Golf Park.
Head Coach Brett Muller’s squad will enter round two in sixth place out of 11 groupings at the Bethel Invite. For a change, the Bulldogs are not going up against any GPAC competition this weekend.
A junior from Elkhorn, Neb., Richmond has found a groove this spring. He was named the GPAC Golfer of the Week on March 26 after he placed third at the Doane Invite. Richmond is aiming for another top-five finish and is currently situated in a tie for fifth at the Bethel Invite. He is five strokes off the tournament lead. Meanwhile, three other Bulldogs managed to shoot 83 or lower on Saturday: sophomore Jacob Dowd (81) and seniors Jaxson Fullerton (81) and Justin Webert (83). Junior Brock Rogers rounded out the lineup by carding an 88. Additionally, freshman Landon Weinandt shot 86 while competing individually.

Concordia entered the Bethel Invite with a team season scoring average of 305.7. The Bulldogs hope to move closer to that number on Sunday while attempting to track down the likes of Oklahoma Wesleyan University (315) and Haskell Indian Nations University (319), the current fourth and fifth place teams, respectively, in the tournament standings.
