SEWARD, Neb. – (Sept. 4) Former All-American tight end Ross Wurdeman has been announced as the new color commentator for Concordia University football games broadcast on 104.9 Max Country. Wurdeman will join play-by-play voice Evan Jones in the booth this 2020 football season. Previously, Tyler Cavalli and Roger Fitzke worked Bulldog football broadcasts. The 2020 campaign is slated to open up on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Doane with kickoff at 6 p.m. CT.

Wurdeman has remained close to the program since graduating from Concordia in 2002. He is employed at Cornerstone Bank in Columbus, Neb., where he resides with his wife Jill and their four children: Libby, Abby, Lauren and Nora. Wurdeman stands as one of the all-time greats in Bulldog football history. He is a member of both the NAIA and Concordia Athletics Halls of Fame. He led Concordia to the quarterfinals of the 2001 NAIA playoffs.

Wurdeman felt honored to be asked to join the Max Country team. Said Wurdeman, “Let’s go to Seward. Let’s go to away games and talk football. What’s not to enjoy about that? Coach (Corby) Osten said I had a face for radio. Getting the opportunity to help Concordia and talk football for a couple hours on Saturday seems like a great gig.”

Honorary captain of the Omaha World-Herald’s 2001 NAIA All-Nebraska team, Wurdeman twice garnered NAIA first team All-America (2000 and 2001) and first team all-GPAC (2000 and 2001) recognition. As a senior, Wurdeman snagged 48 passes for 647 yards and seven touchdowns in leading head coach Courtney Meyer’s squad to a 10-2 record (school record for wins), co-GPAC title and berth in the NAIA playoffs. During Wurdman’s four-year career, Concordia posted a combined record of 26-15.

On the baseball diamond, Wurdeman flashed tremendous power. His 22 career home runs rank as the second most in program history. Over four years playing for head coaches Gene Faszholz (one year) and Jeremy Geidel (three years), Wurdeman batted .254 (103-for-405). He enjoyed his best season as a sophomore when he hit .343 (42-for-119) with nine home runs and 29 RBIs while slugging .655. He was named honorable mention all-conference.

Select GPAC institutions have noted that they will only be able to accommodate one visiting broadcaster due to COVID-19 protocols. In those instances, Jones will go solo in the booth. This will mark the sixth season that Concordia football games will be aired live on Max Country. Jones follows Jayson Jorgensen and Cavalli as play-by-play voice. This fall, all nine Bulldog football outings are scheduled for radio broadcasts.

Wurdeman joined the Bulldog Coaches Show that aired on Thursday (Sept. 3). The show can be replayed HERE.
