Bulldogs look to keep rolling, host Dakota State on Saturday

Concordia University steps out of conference play to host Dakota State University on Saturday afternoon.  Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.

Concordia will look for its first three-game winning streak since the 2005 season.  The Bulldogs are coming off back-to-back wins over Hastings College (10-0) and Dordt College (21-7).  Last week, Concordia used a big third quarter to rally for the win at Dordt College.  Trailing 7-0 at half, the Bulldogs scored all 21 of their points in the third quarter.  Derek Blessing’s 97-yard touchdown run highlighted the Concordia rally.  Cohl Tufford and Jamarcus Walker also added rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs in the win.  Concordia brings a 2-2 overall record into Saturday’s matchup with Dakota State.

DSU is 0-5 on the season.  The Trojans have played a brutally tough schedule so far this year with losses to Midland University (47-20), Dakota Wesleyan (56-20), Doane (52-13), Valley City State (44-27) and Northwestern (63-27).  Offensively, DSU has posted some impressive numbers so far this year.  Quarterback Brandon Large has thrown for 1,073 yards with 10 touchdown passes so far this season.  A total of three Trojan wide receivers have over 200 receiving yards, and Carl Curtis already has five touchdown receptions.  Running back Jeb Olsen has rushed for 444 yards and two scores on the year.  The DSU defense has struggled mightily, however, allowing 53 points and 512 yards of total offense per game.

Fans unable to attend Saturday’s contest can catch a live audio and video webcast on the Concordia Sports Network.  Lucas Mohrman and Scotty Retzlaff will call the action from Bulldog Stadium.
