SEWARD, Neb. – On Tuesday (Sept. 1), popular sports media company Barstool Sports dubbed Concordia University senior fullback Chevy Stout “America’s Fullback.” It all stemmed from a tweet that day sent out by Head Coach Patrick Daberkow. It read, “Best name for a Fullback in 2020. I submit our very own CHEVY STOUT.”

As of Friday (Sept. 4), that tweet had been quote tweeted 294 times, had been retweeted more than 1,200 times and had been ‘liked’ more than 15,000 times. That computes to millions of Twitter impressions (meaning how many people saw the tweet). The tweet rose to another level when @BarstoolBigCat shared the tweet with his more than one million followers. A number of other verified accounts (blue check marks) also picked up on the tweet.

Known for its humorous and tongue-in-cheek approach, Barstool Sports included Stout in a blog post on its website. The outlet wrote, “It took going all the way to NAIA Concordia University in Nebraska, but we found the best fullback in America and his name is Chevy Stout.”

Then on Wednesday, 1011 News out of Lincoln interviewed Stout about the newfound attention. Daberkow told the TV station, “It’s pretty funny that he’s a fullback and his name is Chevy Stout. It’s unique.” Wearer of a large neck roll, Stout mentioned that he enjoys executing “gnarly kick outs (blocks).” He also told 1011 that he drives a Chevy truck. In regards to Stout, linebacker Lane Napier tweeted on Tuesday, “Woke up a fullback. Went to bed a legend!”

Stout is a native of Grand Island, Neb., and an alum of Northwest High School. As Sports Director Kevin Sjuts pointed out in the news story, Stout has one career catch as a collegiate fullback.
