SEWARD, Neb. – A regular at many Bulldog home sporting events, the Concordia University dance and cheer squads opened up their competition seasons at home on Saturday (Jan. 20). After falling by a 78 to 75.5 score to Doane in the morning, Concordia rebounded by defeating Dordt, 74.5 to 57, in a dual that took place at halftime of the women’s basketball game. Meanwhile, the Bulldog cheer squad placed second (score of 74.25) out of four teams at the quadrangular it hosted inside the PE Center Gym.

The dance and cheer teams are coached by Mandi Maser, who is in her second season at Concordia. She is assisted by alum Alison Evans. The cheer squads are captained by junior Kennedy Garner and senior Kathie Nguyen. Junior Neleigh Lehr serves as captain for Bulldog dance.

Competitive cheer and dance are recognized as official national championship sports by the NAIA. The second annual national championships are set to take place March 9-10 in Oklahoma City. Concordia will compete at the conference championships at Hastings on Feb. 10.

Up next for both of Maser’s squads is a competition at Hastings on Wednesday.
