CRETE, Neb. – Bulldogs Shelby Timmerman and Bri Hoyle both earned all-conference honors on Saturday (March 9) while leading the Concordia University Competitive Cheer team into action at the 2024 GPAC Cheer Championships. The Bulldogs wound up in fifth place after earning scores of 78.63 in the prelims and 81.43 in the finals for a total score of 80.73. The total score is the cumulative figure after taking 25 percent of the prelims score and 75 percent of the finals score.

Head Coach Emilie Ashenbach’s squad placed behind Northwestern, Midland, Hastings and Dordt as part of the championship competition held inside the Haddix Center on the Doane campus. Ashenbach came away pleased with the execution of her squad’s two routines.

“The CUNE Cheer team delivered two outstanding performances today, leaving everything they had on the floor during their second routine,” Ashenbach said. “Their dedication and hard work were truly evident, showcasing the results of their commitment and teamwork. As their coach, I couldn’t be more proud of their performance and the progress they’ve made throughout the season. It’s a testament to their resilience and determination, and I’m excited to see what they’ll achieve in the future.”

Eleven Bulldogs represented Concordia at the GPAC Championships in a conference loaded with teams ranked among the top 25 of the NAIA. The Bulldogs emerged from their two routines without any deductions while being led by seniors Bre Romero and Shelby Timmerman. The all-conference awards came as a result of auditions that took place after the team competition. Timmerman and Hoyle both garnered First Team All-GPAC accolades. Teammates Mikah Culler and Lauryn Stanley aided Timmerman and Hoyle while performing in their stunt group. Timmerman has earned three career All-GPAC awards.

The 81.43 that the Bulldogs achieved in the final round of the GPAC Championships marked the fifth time this season they have scored in the 80s. The season high (and school record) of 84.13 was achieved as part of the Concordia Day of Duals. Concordia entered the weekend ranked 21st in the NAIA with a season average score of 80.58.
