Cheer places second at CIT competition

MEQUON, Wis. – The first-ever Concordia Invitational Tournament cheer and dance competitions took place during the annual basketball event on Jan. 27. Head coach Mandi Maser’s squads went up against teams from the Concordias of Ann Arbor, Chicago and Wisconsin. With a score of 56.75, the CUNE cheer squad placed second. Meanwhile, Bulldog dance received a score of 63.3 and finished fourth.

The competition season began on Jan. 20 for the CUNE cheer and dance squads. The Bulldog cheer team also placed second out of four teams at its own quadrangular and was also defeated by Hastings in a dual on Jan. 24. Meanwhile, the dance team has earned dual wins over Dordt and Jamestown and lost to Doane.

Maser, who is in her second season at Concordia. She is assisted by alum Alison Evans. The cheer squads are captained by junior Kennedy Garner and senior Kathie Nguyen. Junior Neleigh Lehr serves as captain for Bulldog dance.

Both teams will also go head-to-head against Northwestern this Saturday in conjunction with Bulldog basketball games. The dance competition will be held inside Walz Arena at halftime of the women’s basketball game, which tips off at 2 p.m. CT. The cheer competition will take place inside the PE Center Gym at halftime of the men’s basketball game.
