BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Concordia University cheer team garnered a score of 51.38 and placed 10th among the 11 squads that competed at the NAIA Northwest Cheer Regional. The event was hosted in Baldwin City, Kan., by Baker University on Friday (Feb. 24).

Head coach Mandi Maser’s cheer squad also placed fifth at the GPAC Cheer and Dance Championships. At the regional meet, the Bulldogs finished above Doane, one of six GPAC schools to take part in the cheer competition.

The top three finishers in both the regional dance and cheer meets earned automatic bids to the national championships. Midland won the dance competition while MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) took first in cheer. The 2017 season marks the first year that NAIA will sponsor an official dance and cheer national championship. The NAIA is the only athletics association to offer national championships in these sports.

Friday marked the end of the competition season for Bulldog dance. Maser’s cheer team also went head-to-head with two conference foes in duals this season. Concordia defeated Hastings, 74.4 – 71.85, on Jan. 25 and then fell at the hands of Doane, 69.55 – 67.55, on Feb. 8.
