SEWARD, Neb. – For the second time in a three-week stretch, Concordia University, Nebraska Men’s Basketball junior Brooks Kissinger has been lauded by the GPAC. On Tuesday (Nov. 25), the league office recognized Kissinger as the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player of the Week. Kissinger was also tabbed GPAC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11.
The latest honor comes courtesy of Kissinger’s efforts in last week’s 78-73 win at No. 3 Northwestern. As part of a strong collective defensive effort, the Bulldogs limited the high-powered Red Raiders well below their season scoring average (99.6 entering the contest). The 6-foot-3 junior guard Kissinger played 32 minutes and posted three steals and two blocked shots. He also added 21 points and eight rebounds. The week also included a fine effort at NCAA Division I University of Nebraska Omaha (an exhibition for Concordia). In the competitive defeat (96-80), Kissinger tallied 26 points and five rebounds.
An Ashland, Neb., native, Kissinger has been a breakthrough star as a junior. In six games this season, he’s averaging 18.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 61.4 percent from the floor. Kissinger averaged 6.2 points and 2.6 rebounds as a sophomore last season.
The Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0 GPAC) will attempt to extend their four-game winning streak tonight (Nov. 25) when they play at Mount Marty (3-5, 2-1 GPAC). Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m. CT from Yankton, S.D.
