Joey Werning signs with Bulldog basketball program

Concordia University head men’s basketball coach Grant Schmidt announced the signing of Joey Werning, a 6’0” guard from Lincoln Pius X High School in Lincoln, Neb., to a Great Plains Athletic Conference/NAIA letter of intent.

“We are very pleased that Joey has decided to attend Concordia University,” Schmidt said of his newest recruit.  “His abilities complement our returning players, and he definitely improves our team as a whole.”

Werning helped the Thunderbolts win 17 of their final 19 games.  The Thunderbolts advanced to the Nebraska Class B State Tournament Semifinals and finished the season with an overall record of 19-5.

Werning led Pius X in assists this past season with 120 (5.0 assists per game). Werning’s efforts garnered him Lincoln Journal Star Class B All-State honors.  Schmidt added, “Joey has an infectious, winning attitude, and I am very excited to see how he affects our program this coming season and for the next four years.”
