High School
Tanner played under Coach Don Kivinieme Jr. for Bellevue East High School. He was a two year letter, one year starter for the Chieftains. He was voted captain for one year and was a part of the 2018 All-ITG Baseball Team.

Personal
Tanner was born in Okinawa, Japan to Shane and Lynn Matt. He has two older sisters: Makenzie and Mikaila Matt.
