Yurich tosses complete game, Bulldogs pick up 5-1 win over Roosevelt University

Concordia University used one big offensive inning and a solid pitching performance by Jacob Yurich to pick up a 5-1 win over Roosevelt University on Friday morning.  Concordia won its second straight to improve to 6-7 on the year.  Roosevelt dropped to 3-3 with the loss.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning.  Ernesto Irizarry delivered an RBI single to put the Lakers on top 1-0.

The Roosevelt lead didn’t last long, as the Concordia offense came to life in the bottom of the sixth inning.  After totaling just two hits in the first five innings, Concordia plated four runs on five hits in the sixth.  Brandon Pflug (Ft. Morgan, Colo.) and Ray Finley (Tucson, Ariz.) each had RBI singles, while the other two runs scored via a pair of wild pitches in the inning.

The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the eighth inning on another RBI single by Finley.  The five runs were more than enough for Yurich (Aurora, Colo.), who tossed a complete game four-hitter.  Roosevelt didn’t have a hit off Yurich in the final three innings of play.  He walked two and struck out seven on the day.

The Concordia offense totaled nine hits in the win.  Finley was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s, and Pflug was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the way for the Bulldogs.

Concordia will conclude their spring trip with another game against Roosevelt University on Saturday morning.
