Bulldogs suffer 5-2 and 10-3 losses at York College
York College picked up two baseball wins over Concordia on Tuesday in York. Scores were 5-2 and 10-3. Concordia dropped to 9-12 on the year.
York totaled just five hits in game one. However, the Panthers took advantage of four Concordia errors to pull away for the win. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Pat Burford.
Concordia tied the game in the second. With two outs in the inning, Tate Bedwell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) homered for the Bulldogs. York reclaimed the lead with a single run in the third. Kris Little doubled and later scored on a Bulldog error.
The Bulldogs again tied the game in the top of the fourth. Anthony Flores (Craig, Colo.) walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and then stole third. Flores scored on an RBI double by Dustin Matlock (Colorado Springs, Colo.). The Panthers again had an answer with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Bret t Nathan reached on an error to lead off the inning, and another error on the throw allowed him to move to second. Following a sacrifice bunt, Gene Felise drove Nathan in with a sacrifice fly to give York a 3-2 lead.
The Panthers tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. York scored another unearned run to take a 4-2 lead, and Nick Nguyen added an RBI single in the inning for the Panthers. Concordia was unable to rally late, and York secured the 5-2 win.
Zac Goodrich (Lutz, Fla.), Nate Comes (Grimes, Iowa) and Bedwell all had two hits to lead the way offensively for the Bulldogs in game one. Eric Gramenz (Steeleville, Ill.) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and one strikeout in five innings of work.
York used a huge first inning to take advantage of game two. Concordia took a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first. Goodrich doubled to lead off the game and following a sacrifice bunt by T.J. Conway (Crete, Neb.), Goodrich scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Pflug (Ft. Morgan, Colo.). The lead didn’t last long, however, as the Panthers sent 12 to the plate and scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.
The host Panthers added three more runs in the third to grab a 9-1 lead. Concordia plated a pair of runs in the fifth. With two outs, Goodrich tripled. Conway and Pflug followed with back-to-back RBI doubles for the Bulldogs. Concordia threatened to score more but left the bases loaded. The Panthers scored another run in the sixth for the 10-3 final.
York totaled 12 hits in the game compared to seven for Concordia. Goodrich was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored for the Bulldogs. Josh Anderson (Westminster, Colo.) took the loss after allowing six runs on four hits with two walks in just 0.1 of an inning.
Concordia hosts Dordt College on March 25.
