Bulldogs drop a close one to Missouri Valley College, 3-2
The Concordia University, Nebraska, baseball team suffered a 3-2 defeat to Missouri Valley College on Monday, March 2.
With the loss the Bulldogs fell to 3-7 on the season, while Missouri Valley moved to 2-7-1.
Concordia scratched the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning as freshman Andrew Yerrell (Santa Fe, Texas) drew a leadoff walk, then stole second. One out later, senior Brandon Pflug (Ft. Morgan, Colo.) blasted an RBI double into right field.
The Bulldogs 1-0 lead evaporated quickly, however, in the top of the fourth as Missouri Valley plated three runs on three hits and walk.
The duo of Yerrell and Pflug accounted for Concordia’s only other run in the bottom of the fifth as Yerrell reached on an error, stole second and came home on a single by Pflug.
Pflug finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace the Bulldogs offense.
Missouri Valley’s Weston Loftin picked up his first win of the season, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits in a complete game.
Concordia freshman Michael Hodges (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took the loss despite pitching well. Hodges allowed three runs on three hits and a walk in four innings of work.
Concordia returns to action on Tuesday, March 3 as the Bulldogs play a split doubleheader against Missouri Valley College at 10 a.m. and Oklahoma Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
