SEWARD, Neb. – Concordia University, Nebraska Baseball quickly moved to tab Ty Nekoliczak as the program’s lead assistant, as announced by the Concordia Athletics Department on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Nekoliczak steps into the role previously held by Ben Berg, who accepted a position within the Minnesota Twins organization of Major League Baseball. Nekoliczak spent the 2026 season as a graduate assistant on Head Coach Ryan Dupic’s staff.
A native of Greeley, Neb., Nekoliczak has been part of the program since the 2021-22 academic year when he arrived at Concordia as a student-athlete. His promotion allows for continuity within Bulldog Baseball.
Said Nekoliczak in a statement, “It’s hard to put into words what this opportunity means for me because of the impact that this place and program has had on me. The opportunity to grow in my faith and to learn and impact those around me in a positive way is what I am most looking forward to. I have had the incredible pleasure of learning from a lot of good coaches and people during my time here that have gotten the program to where it is today. The program has become the epitome of personal and player development, and I look forward to continuing to invest in the people of this place.”
Over his first 12 seasons leading the baseball program, Dupic has continually surrounded himself with high level assistant coaches. Nekoliczak is next in line.
Said Dupic, “Ty represents all that is good about Concordia Baseball. His commitment to faith and character, combined with his relatability to people and commitment to competitive excellence makes him a great fit for this position. I’m grateful it can be such a seamless transition and that we have another great coach ready to continue to build our program.”
This past 2026 season, Nekoliczak’s first as an assistant coach, the Bulldogs extended their string of national tournament appearances to seven. Concordia finished ’26 at 38-18 overall, continuing the success Nekoliczak contributed heavily to as a player during the 2022 through 2025 campaigns. Nekoliczak will work closely with the Bulldog position players in his expanded role.
At the time Nekoliczak graduated in May 2025, he held program all-time rankings of second in assists (466), second in walks (154), third in runs scored (230), fourth in hits (263), fifth in games played (226), sixth in batting average (.358), sixth in stolen bases (49) and ninth in RBIs (143). He collected four GPAC All-Conference honors with two first team mentions and was named the 2024 ABCA-Rawlings NAIA Baseball Gold Glove award winner at second base. In addition, Nekoliczak was a three-time Academic All-District (College Sports Communicators) and three-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete honoree. He was twice named the GPAC Gold Glove award winner at second base. Known as one of the team's most influential leaders, Nekoliczak helped Concordia to a combined four GPAC titles and four NAIA national tournament appearances as a student-athlete.
Added Nekoliczak, “There are many people that deserve thank yous for helping me get to this point, but Coach Dupic has had an everlasting impact on my life for the past six years. There is nothing to say to put into perspective the influence that he has had on my life.”
In addition to touting Nekoliczak for his coaching acumen, Dupic reflected upon Ben Berg’s meaning to the program over more than eight years combined as a player and assistant coach.
Stated Dupic, “Ben’s impact on the Concordia Baseball Program ranks among the best between his nearly decade as a player and coach. We are grateful for his time here and are looking forward to seeing him succeed in his next steps.”
Since Dupic took the reins of the program prior to the start of the 2015 season, the Bulldogs’ accomplishments have included 403 total wins, eight national tournament appearances, five GPAC regular season championships, three GPAC tournament titles and a NAIA World Series berth in 2021. Dupic has been named the GPAC Coach of the Year four times and was honored as the 2021 Omaha World-Herald Midlands Coach of the Year.
