ORLANDO, Fla. – As part of a presentation that took place in conjunction with the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Convention on Tuesday (June 11), the Concordia University athletics communication office earned credit for an NAIA national first-place award in the category of “season preview/review.” The winning story was titled, “Reflections on a national title years in the making” and reviewed the 2018-19 national championship season for Bulldog women’s basketball. Concordia received three other mentions for top 10 placements in the 2019 NAIA-SIDA media contests.

The announcement comes a couple of weeks after Concordia also appeared as a CoSIDA district 7 award in the category of “Coach/Admin/Historical” profile. The other winners in that district were from the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Kansas State University, the Missouri Valley Conference and the University of Montana. The story recognized was “A relationship built on the volleyball courts of Nebraska” and detailed the journey of Bulldog volleyball coaches Ben and Angie Boldt.

National recognition is nothing new for student-athletes and members of the Concordia athletic department. Together they helped the Bulldogs place 30th in the final 2018-19 Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings. For his role in leading the women’s basketball team to a national title, head coach Drew Olson was named the Phyllis Holmes National Coach of the Year. In addition, track and field assistant coach Ed McLaughlin earned national recognition as NAIA Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year for the indoor and outdoor seasons.
