SEWARD, Neb. – Courtesy of their outstanding efforts throughout the entire month, Camryn Opfer of the volleyball program and Lane Napier of the football program have been named the Bulldog Athletic Association Member (BAAM) Athletes of the Month for October 2021. Opfer and Napier emerged as the winners of a vote conducted at the BAAM luncheon held on Tuesday (Nov. 9). Winners for the month of September were Caydren Cox (football) and Gabi Nordaker (volleyball).
A fifth-year member of the football program, Lane Napier has continued to add to his impeccable résumé. During the month of October, Napier collected 54 tackles, two pass breakups, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble in four games. He was named the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18 after making 20 tackles in the win at Mount Marty. Concordia enjoyed a 4-0 October that included wins over Dakota Wesleyan, Jamestown, Mount Marty and Midland. On the season, Napier has totaled 121 tackles (two for loss), two fumble recoveries and an interception. Napier ranks second among all NAIA players this season in tackles. For his career, the David City, Neb., native has totaled 522 tackles, a Concordia and GPAC conference record.
A Seward High School product, Camryn Opfer has raised her game while lifting up the Bulldogs down the stretch. Throughout October, Opfer compiled 95 kills (3.28/set), 98 digs (3.38/set), 13 blocks and five aces while hitting .209 from her outside hitter position (in 29 sets played). Overall this season, Opfer has racked up team highs in kills with 313 (3.37/set) and digs with 295 (3.17/set) and is hitting .222. Opfer has led the Bulldogs to a 15-10 overall record and a spot in the GPAC tournament semifinals. Named a Second Team All-GPAC selection in each of her first two collegiate seasons, Opfer has amassed 867 kills in her career. She’s looking to spur Concordia to the national tournament for a third season in a row.
